Introduction Day -Aug. 26

This is my very first blog post ever, and I am already extremely excited about this project. My Advanced Baking I instructor, Chef Mary Helen Hawkins, has asked my class to compile either a journal or a blog to commemorate our projects, mess ups, and learning curves. I have done a fair bit of baking in my life. I regularly design and decorate cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings! However, my goal for this class is to really push myself to learn something new. I don’t want to take the easy way out and always make something that I have made before. I don’t want to make things that I know that I can make well. I really want to try and branch out to learn as many new things as possible, even if it means I mess up along the way!

Today in class, Chef went over the requirements for us. She informed us of various events and tasks that we are responsible for throughout this semester. Along with this blog, I am also responsible for completing our midterm assignment – the details of which have not been disclosed to us yet, a Wassail Fest Project that consists of making hot cocoa and cookies for Wassail Fest and passing them out in the Project CHEW food truck (FUN), weekly labs that consist of various baking assignments and cleaning, and a final exam which we do not have all of the details for either. We are also expected to help out with the Kossen Dinner that will be on September 29th – we will be in charge of the dessert! YAY!

I cannot wait to really get started baking and learning! Next week, Chef is going over some baking basics.
