FS – Chris Jenkins – April 3

Chris Jenkins, our amazing campus photographer/videographer here at MUW, came to class for a visit. He will be doing our food photo shoots (worth 50% of our final grade YIKES) beginning next week!

Chris talked with us about possible photo angles (overhead, eyelevel, 45 degree, etc), lighting options (natural, diffused, staged lighting, flash, etc), lens options, background options, dishes, and so on! It wasn’t until his visit that I realized how much work I had to do for this project (because I didn’t have ANY of these components planned out)!

Speaking of planning, I didn’t even really know what product I wanted to present. I had the idea of doing a large turkey that was a perfect golden brown color created by tanning spray and then cooked for about thirty minutes total (raw inside) and presented on a cooling rack or sheet pan in a messy, natural way. HOWEVER, Chef MH advised me to do something that I know and something that I could potentially use in a portfolio to gain future business. And being the person that I am, I am MUCH more likely to style pastries, cakes, and pies in the future, NOT large turkeys.

SO, I have adapted my idea. I am now creating a blackberry pie with lattice work on top. I plan to cut out a slice and possibly do some faux ice cream melting on top! (We will see how this all turns out!)

Stay posted for my finished product!
